Why? Because they would have to know your secret recovery phrase (also called as seed phrase) which, obviously, only you should know. To steal anything from you the hacker would have to steal the actual physical device and know your recovery phrase. That being said, make sure to keep your hardware wallet recovery phrase out of reach for anyone but you.
